Algebra 1 (typically 8th or 9th grade math) is one of my primary tutoring subjects. I have tutored it individually and co-taught an accelerated algebra summer course at Brookline High School in Boston, MA. I can also tutor Algebra 2 on request.

My undergraduate degree at U.T. was in Latin and Ancient Greek. When I was a graduate student at the Boston University School of Education my focus was in Latin and Classical Humanities. I also taught 7th grade Latin (1 and 2) at Boston Latin Academy.

I don't believe that some people are simply “bad test takers” and can never do well on a standardized test like the S.A.T. There are many strategies and tips that can bring up one's score many points. I, having done well on both the S.A.T. and G.R.E. (over 1300 on math+verbal), can help students with these strategies.

As a graduate student studying religious history at Boston University (I was in two graduate programs) I was required to write over a hundred pages per semester and graded very rigorously. As a result of this experience (as well as great middle and high school English teachers) I can teach students to write clear, well-structured essays.

In addition to the subjects listed above I have been paid to tutor various other subjects, including college history, Ancient Greek, high school physics, geometry, and computer science.

I try to keep my rates reasonable with respect to my education/experience and what others are charging. I charge $60 per hour for math and science and $50 per hour for the humanities and test preparation. I do charge more for a long commute, however.
